Session I - Foundational Concept of AI
Intelligence - It refers to the ability to
understand, distinguish, question things/objects/feelings/situations/ people
along with acquiring and applying knowledge and skills in various domains.
Decision-Making – It means selection of an item or
action or belief out of several possible alternate options. Available data,
information and our intelligence plays an important role in decision making.
Types of
Intelligence
1. Naturalist
Intelligence(Environment Skills) : It refers to the human ability to
identify and categorise among living things as well as understanding other
features of the natural world.
2. Musical
Intelligence (Music Skills) – It enables to recognize, create, reproduce
and reflect on music.
3. Logical-Mathematical
Intelligence (Numerical and logical skills) – It refers to the ability to
calculate, quantify, use propositions and hypotheses, and carry out complete
mathematical operations. It also includes reasoning skills, logical
intelligence etc.
4. Existential
Intelligence (Religious and Spiritual skills) – It refers to that form of
intelligence which people use to ponder over deep questions such as reason of
human existence, meaning of life, why we die, and hos we got here, and so
forth.
5. Interpersonal
Intelligence (People skills) – It refers to understand and interact
effectively with others.
6. Bodily-Kinesthetic
Intelligence (Mind body skills) – It refers to the intelligence that helps
manipulate objects and use a variety of variety of physical skills such as
athletes, dancers, surgeons and crafts people exhibit.
7. Linguistic
Intelligence (Language processing skills) – Ability to think in words and
to use language to express and appreciate complex meanings.
8. Spatial
Intelligence (Visual world perceiving skills)- It makes good use of three
dimensions, mental imagery, 3-D reasoning, image manipulation, graphic etc.
9. Intra-
personal Intelligence (Self Awareness skills) – Ability to understand oneself
and one’s thoughts and feelings.
Role of intelligence in decision making:
1. Problem Recognition
o Intelligence helps identify when a decision is needed by detecting deviations or opportunities.
2. Data Collection & Processing
o Both human and artificial intelligence gather relevant information, filter noise, and structure data for analysis.
3. Knowledge Representation
o Intelligence organizes facts, rules, and past experiences into usable formats (e.g., decision trees, neural networks).
4. Generating Alternatives
o Intelligent systems (and humans) brainstorm possible options or “what‑if” scenarios.
5. Evaluation & Scoring
o Using reasoning (logic rules, heuristics) or AI algorithms (e.g., scoring functions, predictive models) to rank alternatives.
6. Optimization & Selection
o Intelligence applies optimization methods (e.g., linear programming, search algorithms) or human judgment to pick the best option.
